That’s why I’m going to give you my honest review of Transcribe Anywhere. I’ll go in-depth in this review, but I’ll sum it up here:
Transcribe Anywhere is NOT A SCAM. It is completely legitimate.
You won’t find a more thorough transcription education anywhere. The in-depth guides, numerous practice modules, lifetime access, and personal support make this the best way to learn transcription.
That said, it isn’t for everyone. If you’re looking for a work from home job, there are several reasons why transcription might not be the right fit for you. On the other hand, it could be just what you’re looking for.
Read on to learn more about who it’s for and if it’s worth it for you.
What is Transcribe Anywhere?
Transcribe Anywhere is a comprehensive education that walks you through everything you need to know about being a transcriber from home.
If you want a better understanding as to what’s offered in each course, and whether transcription is even right for you, there are also two, totally free, “mini-courses” that walk you through the process and give you a better idea if this is a good job for you.
The course was created by work-from-home veteran, Janet Shaughnessy. Janet never set out to become a transcriber from home, but when her husband became disabled she needed to find a way to work from home so that she could take care of him.
Over time, Janet created her own transcription business, Zoom Transcription Services. Her success speaks volumes about what is possible with transcription – her own business made six figures last year.
While that is amazing, you should know going in that it isn’t the norm. Most transcribers don’t make nearly that much money. Still, it is a very legitimate and completely viable way to make money from home.
While Janet is very successful as a transcriber now, she says it took her a while to get going. Although she had had some prior experience with transcription at her old job, she found it very difficult to find information that helped her translate her experience into a work at home job.
Eventually, that’s what led her to create Transcribe Anywhere.
Hoping to help others break into the field of transcription and take advantage of the vast amount of work available, Janet has created the only online course that’s approved by the AAERT (American Association of Electronic Reporters).
It’s her hope that Transcribe Anywhere will provide you with a laser-focused guide to becoming a successful transcriber, allowing you to skip a lot of wasted time trying to figure things out like she did.
What is Transcription?
A transcriber is someone who listens to audio files and then turns what they hear into text. For example, someone could want to transcribe a podcast into a written format, or put closed captioning on a YouTube video.
While it seems pretty simple, it’s actually not a straightforward as you’d think. One of the biggest misconceptions about transcription is that all you need to do is be able to type fast. Of course, that’s not really the case.
That’s why the course is so helpful.
For example, do you know about time coding? Do you know the difference between “strict verbatim” and “standard verbatim”? Do you know what equipment to use or software to download? These are all things you need to understand if you want to be a successful transcriptionist.
The Transcribe Anywhere course will walk you through all these details, and much more.

Within both Transcribe Anywhere courses, you’ll find all the basics, including:
- What equipment you’ll need (and where to get the best deals)
- Software and hardware links
- Comprehensive style guides
- Time coding instruction
- Text expanders and shortcut keys
- Guidance for how to set your rates and find clients
- Sample client contracts

While the two courses are set up similarly, the legal transcription theory course takes things a step further, going much more in-depth as to the workings of legal transcription.
If you sign up for the Legal Theory Course, you’ll receive training that includes everything you need to know to thrive as a legal transcriber. While it is a bit more money, having legal transcription training really raises your income potential as a transcriber.
The best thing about Transcribe Anywhere is that it’s a complete package – you won’t walk away feeling like there’s still something about transcription you need to learn or practice.
Instead, you’ll be confident in your abilities and ready to start applying to jobs. Plus, you receive lifetime support with the purchase of the program, so you can always ask questions if you feel stuck somewhere.
Another great benefit of this program is that it’s constantly being updated to reflect what’s currently going on in the world of transcription.
If there’s something new or relevant that will impact this job, you can be sure that it will be included in the course. Since you have lifetime access to the course, you can log back in at any time to make sure you’re up to date.
Can’t I Just Get a Transcription Job Without the Course?
Of course. You don’t absolutely need this transcription course in order to get a transcription job.
But here’s the thing – without proper training and background in transcription, you’ll likely be limited to finding a job at one of the very low-paying transcription companies out there.
These companies often have very high expectations, but the hourly wage works out to be a very low amount. While they might be good for a beginner or someone who wants to make a few extra bucks here and there, they are NOT the way to go if you want to make a good income as a transcriptionist.
Janet’s course teaches you how to market yourself and build your own transcription business. With this course, you’ll learn the ins and outs of the job and you’ll discover how to make consistent income from clients who are willing to pay good money for transcription services.
She’ll give you step-by-step tutorials on how to find good-paying clients and how to build your own transcribing business.
Are There Any Downsides to Transcribe Anywhere?
While I wouldn’t say there are any downsides to the course itself, you do need to know what you’re getting yourself into before you purchase the course.
Transcription is not a work at home job meant for everyone. You must have patience and be able to sit for long periods of time. It’s also not the highest paying job available if you want to work from home, but it is in high demand and the work has the potential to be very consistent.
If you’re looking for a work from home job you can do while your kids are playing in the next room, this probably isn’t the right job for you. That’s because transcription requires close listening and very careful attention to detail. That’s just too much to ask if you’re also listening for your kids.
Transcribe Anywhere also probably won’t be a good fit for you if you don’t speak English as a first language. Transcription relies heavily on having excellent grammar and punctuation. While these things are covered in the course, it’s often too challenging for those who aren’t native speakers.
Is Transcribe Anywhere a Scam?
When looking for Transcribe Anywhere reviews, a lot of people want to know if it’s a scam. Transcribe Anywhere is not a scam. It offers legitimate transcription training, giving you the skills you need to start making money from home as a transcriber.
Like anything else, though, it does take time and effort to be successful as a transcriber. Let’s not forget the word work in the phrase work at home. If you’re willing to put in the effort, you can have great success with this program as many others have.
How Much Does Transcribe Anywhere Cost?
If you prefer, there are payment plans available, allowing you to pay piecemeal for access to certain modules.
If you aren’t sure if transcribing is the right fit for you, don’t go running to pay for the course until you’ve gone through the free mini-course first.
